Project Description
The mural project is being funded by the Jandy Ammons Foundation and the New Hope Road Alliance (NHRA). The NHRA is a non-profit 501-C 3 organization whose mission is to serve the community surrounding the New Hope Road corridor in Raleigh.

The Ammons Foundation has provided funding for an age appropriate playground for the siblings of the youth who participate in the sporting events.  To enhance the area and honor the neighborhood, the NHRA is funding the creation of an outdoor mural located on a building adjacent to the playground. There are two connected walls on which the mural will be created.

Each wall measures 22' 9" wide by 10' high, with an additional 21/2' to 4 1/2' space under the peaked roof above the 10' height on the clubhouse side.

A compensated artist will facilitate the creation of the mural on site by young people. The goal of the mural is to celebrate the diversity and culture of Wilder’s Grove Youth Center and the surrounding neighborhood.

Site of Mural
The mural will be located on the outside of the clubhouse at The Wilders Grove Youth Center in Raleigh. Wilder’s Grove was founded in 1950 to use sports as a catalyst to promote positive youth development in the New Hope Road/New Bern Avenue area.  Wilder’s Grove is comprised of 4 sports fields, a clubhouse/bathrooms and concession stand.

The Center receives no city, state or federal funds and relies on registration fees and donations to operate.  The fields are used for football, softball, soccer and cheerleading programs for youths aged 5-13 and their families.  Wilder’s Grove Youth Center is located at 4204 Willow Oak Rd, Raleigh, NC 27604.
