Call for Artists: Art of Mind - April, 2019 at Imurj

In 2018, there were an estimated 6 million people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia in the US, with cases expected to double by 2060. A condition so common in our communities that nearly everyone has had some interaction with or impact from it, Dementia and the security of affordable elderly care is a societal challenge our communities must work together to address to ensure our elderly are cared for. With up to 50% of adults over 85 showing symptoms of Dementia, it is likely that we each will face this challenge in some capacity in the latter years of our lives.

Imurj has partnered with Empathy Through Art, a non-profit launching this spring, to use art in all its forms to tackle the issue of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Together, Imurj, Empathy Through Art, and the Dementia Alliance are bringing together artists, musicians, dancers, writers, sculptors, and more to share their work related to Alzheimer’s and Dementia. These works of art, while on exhibit, will serve as the foundation for a series of local, community-based events and projects on the topic, including a First Friday event in April, multimedia project created by local artists, and a fundraising event in the fall.

The art, music, stories, and conversations will be captured via a short film series and print magazine that will be used to increase awareness and empathy for Alzheimer’s and Dementia. For more details click here. Works that don’t get accepted for the exhibit are still eligible to be put into print with full credit to the artist.

This call is for visual art, performance art (including music), and spoken/written word art/talent that tackles the issue of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and the necessity of caring for our elderly. Works about mental health and aging as a broader topic are also welcome. Imurj will be hosting this regional exhibit for the month of May, 2019.

Call for Art is open to Artists living in the United States.
