Business Support of the Arts Awarded for 2019

[Raleigh, NC]--United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce have named recipients of their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the arts in our area by businesses, organizations and individuals.

Awards are given in large business, small business, arts education and individual/foundation categories. The awards were presented at the 9th Annual State of Arts and Culture in Wake County at the NC Museum of History and are, as follows:

Large Business: WRAL-FM Mix 101.5

For the past six years, WRAL-FM MIX 101.5, Promotions Director Jason Newton, and his team have run the Christmas Choir Competition, which provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the choral programs and musical talents of schools across the region.

Small Business: Raleigh Brewing Company

Since its founding in 2013, Raleigh Brewing Company has been a major supporter of arts and cultural events in the Hillsborough Street area and beyond by contributing resources, expertise and volunteer time to a number of arts organizations.

 

Arts Education: Elsie Shuler

As a chorus teacher at Heritage Middle School, Elsie is always seeking out creative ways to use the arts to inspire her students. She established Heritage's Patriot Point Honors Choir, which travels across the state and country performing at various venues such as Disney World, the NC Governor's Mansion, and Carolina Hurricanes games.

Individual/Foundation: Mark Prak

As a partner at Brooks Pierce, Mark was instrumental in building the law firm's art collection, and was a host and sponsor of United Arts Council's Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? fundraiser this past year. Through Mark's efforts, Brooks Pierce has been a generous sponsor of Guess Who? for the past 13 years.                      

The United Arts Council’s mission is to build better communities through support and advocacy of the arts. The mission of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce is to sustain and further develop a thriving economy and to enhance our community's quality of life.
