Maps, Marbling, and Metaphor in Middle School: Integrating Art and Poetry with Science, Social Studies and ELA

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Layers of the atmosphere and layers of rock, geographic regions and characters from literature--all these and more come alive through visual art and poetry. Middle School Science, Social Studies, Visual Art and ELA teachers are invited to join artist Shannon Newby and writer Mimi Herman for a hands-on, arts-integrated afternoon of art and poetry built from the NC Standard Course of Study. You'll discover a fun and easy way to marble paper to make maps that show everything from the physical world to the imaginative, and create poems that provide keys to understanding the maps you've made. Rediscover the joy of teaching and collect a dynamic lesson you can bring back to your students!
