NOTE: DRUM FOR CHANGE IS NOT A PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE. The artist brings real instruments for every student. Class sizes are limited to 25 students so that EVERYONE has the opportunity to drum TOGETHER. The village metaphor fosters cooperation, collaboration, and communication. In a 55-minute session students receive a cultural immersion through games, rhythms and songs using the djembe drum from West Africa. This program features a character-building component that highlights values important to indigenous cultures. Each song has a specific underlying moral, ethic, or principle like gratitude, unity, positivity, ritual, service to others, respect, balance, celebration, and connection to nature. These serve as positive examples for healthy, happy lifestyles for modern society. Add-on sessions for faculty/staff stress busters available.
Greg Whitt believes life is richer when we communicate, cooperate, and collaborate with one another and with the world around us. Because he believes this, he facilitates programs to help people live, work, and play well together. He works with corporations, congregations, communities, and classrooms that want to shake things up a bit in order to create more-meaningful connections. Greg has been an arts educator since 2002. He is a two-time recipient of the United Arts Council's Regional Artist Project Grant for folkloric study in Cuba (2011) and Belize (2014). Greg holds a graduate certificate in Transformative Leadership from the Maryland University of Integrative Health. He is president of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild.
