Students will build their own story from scratch, with the Hero's Journey! They will explore some of their favorite books and movies - Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Lion King, Moana, Frozen, The Jungle Book, and more. Students will discover the power of their own imagination to create a complete and engaging narrative. They will collaboratively, and individually to find settings, themes, character archetypes, plot devices, story hooks, and more. Bolaji works directly with the teacher to incorporate specific curriculum connections like personal narrative, fantasy, and more. Bolaji's own fiction includes kid superhero book series based in multiple cultures: African, African-American, Asian, Latin-American, Caribbean, and more. This residency incorporates all learning styles, and is tailored to suit particular grade levels. It is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that will have students clamoring to imagine, write, create, and show off their work to family and friends. Bolaji Oyejide (Oh-yay-gee-day) is the author of the BRAVE YOUNG HEROES series - 50 books that help kids unlock their inner superpowers. The series tells coming-of-age stories in the mold of "The Hero's Journey", featuring kids from all over the world who find inner strength despite obstacles like homelessness, anxiety, autism, dyslexia, OCD, obesity, and more. Having grown up in Nigeria, Bolaji is well versed in multi-cultural folklore. He has successfully shared The Hero's Journey with enthusiastic students at several schools in the Triangle area, including The Franciscan School, AB Combs Magnet Elementary, Endeavor Charter, Beaver Dam Elementary, and Morris Grove Elementary.
