Bright Star plays help students develop a deeper understanding of professional theatre while connecting to a variety of curriculum standards and subjects. In our current season all 50 programs are great for elementary school students (some target Pre-K to 5th; others target 2nd or 3rd grade and up),16 programs are great for middle schools, and 8 programs are great for high schools. Productions cover many subjects including STEAM, Anti-bullying, Literature, Black History, Civics, Health, Music, World Cultures and Holidays. Through Bright Star programs, students can learn about everything from how to how to overcome cyber-bullying to how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. planned the March on Washington. Professional actor-educators come from across the country and come prepared for Q&A with students after each show. Study guides and Standards for shows are available online! Tours have two or three shows on them so schools can mix and match or work with nearby schools to receive discounts.
Bright Star has earned a reputation for excellence among educators, administrators and theaters such as the National Theatre in Washington DC. It recently worked with the National Park Service and the U.S. State Department to take shows across the country and beyond! The season comprises curriculum and character-education based plays that are as entertaining as they are educational. From Heroes of the Underground Railroad to Friend Request (our brand new cyber bullying show), and Count Mathula (our brand new STEM offering), Bright Star offers something for everyone, with more than 50 productions hitting the road covering anti-bullying, STEAM and much more! Bright Star will serve more than 2000 audiences this year including many schools, theatres and museums in the Raleigh area.
