The Artists in Schools Directory is an online catalogue of curriculum-based performance, workshop, and residency programs. Artists and their programs are selected through a rigorous application process, including evaluation by a panel comprised of arts education specialists, parents, and United Arts Council staff. The Directory is updated annually every August.
Each approved program has an individual webpage with information that schools need to know when considering whether to book a program: program description, artist background, space needs, technical requirements, availability, and fee structure. The directory is searchable by keyword(s), artistic discipline, grade level, program type, cultural context.
All artists included in the directory are checked annually in the National Sex Offender Public Website prior to implementing a school program. United Arts sends a list of cleared artists to the Wake County Public School System’s main office, which then makes the list available to public schools via the in-school intranet. Charter and private schools may request a copy of the list of cleared artists via email.
