The seventh annual National Arts Program Exhibition, featuring artwork by City of Raleigh and Wake County employees and their families, is on display through January 11 in the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery at the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St. The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, except holidays.
The National Arts Program® provides professional and non-professional artists with a rare opportunity to exhibit their works publicly and to compete for cash prizes. The Program asserts that there is genuine artistic talent in all of society that is often not recognized. The Program's Foundation sponsors these municipal contests and exhibits nationally in 80 cities and communities.
Judges for the exhibition this year were artists Valarie Jean Bailey, a member of the Artspace Artists Association; Jason Craighead, a member of the Public Art Committee of the City's Arts Commission; and Janet Link, a professor of art at Meredith College. Prizes and awards for the annual competition are funded by the private National Arts Program to identify, showcase and reward the visual artistic talent in America.
