Among the more than 35 workplace campaigns for United Arts are both large and small firms that have created a successful mix between fund raising and employee fun. Late spring and summer 2009 workplace campaigns at First Citizens Bank and Small Kane Architects brought in tens of thousands of dollars to United Arts’ annual campaign.
First Citizens’ workplace effort, chaired by an inventive employee committee, created a Renaissance Faire theme which featured Ye Games of Chance, Ye Talent Competition (an annual event at First Citizens for this campaign and filled with enthusiastic and talented bank employees), Ye Auction of Silence (a silent auction of art created and/or donated by employees) and Ye Crest Competition (entrants offered originally designed medieval crests that were judged by a panel of three). A company cafeteria was corralled into the act: the menu on one day of the week-long effort: “Fried or Grilled Pheasant (well, chicken),” “Lady Guinevere Wrap,” “Crusade Gruel (chili),” and “Lady Linda’s Flavorful Fanfare Desserts.” Renaissance Troubadours and a bake sale were also part of the mix. The First Citizens Bank total: $29,175—a portion of which is the bank’s corporate gift to our campaign and which is tied to the amount raised by employees themselves. The First Citizens workplace campaign also allowed their employees to designate gifts to local arts councils in a total of six counties.
United Arts encourages creativity in workplace campaigns. Another excellent example of this is Small Kane Architects, a first-time workplace for United Arts this year, featured a “Mask” competition, with some striking results!
