United Arts is pleased to feature the works of Gabriella Corter and Jeff Bell beginning on ‘First Friday&rsquo — Friday, August 7, 2009. Their work will be on display for the month of August at the United Arts office space, located at 110 S. Blount Street in downtown Raleigh.

Gabriella Corter is a Raleigh artist whose work is focused on nature, with subject matter focusing on animals and the difficulties that have co-existing with humanity. She holds a degree in painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Corter uses the perspectives inherent in wood grain as backdrops for subjects. Carefully selected wood grain designs can be highlighted with sheer colored oil paint to appear as water, desert terrain, sky or even mountain ranges. Depending on scale and placement of objects upon the wood, they can appear in close foreground, in distant background or in sky.

Jeff Bell is a Durham artist who holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC-Wilmington and UNC-Greensboro. His 3-D works incorporate pieces from preexisting objects: he dismantles them and then creates sculptures from those elements.
