“Nature inspires me-- the shape or texture of a leaf, the color of a flower, or by lines and shapes made by a pile of driftwood. This is the beginning of my design process in which color, line, and texture are paramount. I often explore new materials and techniques, challenging myself to try new ways to express my vision with each piece. Starting with a photograph, I try to cull just the essence of the subject by using unusual colors, and choosing only the most interesting lines and shapes. I work spontaneously on the surface of the fabric; painting, fusing, piecing, couching yarns, machine appliqueing, and machine or hand quilting. As construction progresses, I derive great satisfaction from trying new solutions to each design problem as it arises.

Currently, I am working on three series: the Italian ‘Scapes series, the Botanical series, and the Quiltlet series. My Italian ‘Scapes are the product of my trip to Tuscany in 2005. In this series, I am exploring the illusion of depth, using value and color, to depict the beauty of the landscape and architecture of Italy. The Botanical series celebrates the joyful exuberance of light, shape and color found in natural objects, both living and otherwise. In the Quiltets, I challenged myself to work in a small format, while still creating exquisite designs.

When people view my work, I hope they are filled with the sense of joy I had while creating them.”
