Congressional High School
Arts Competition

Every spring, the 4th Congressional District, represented by U.S. Representative David Price, and the 13th Congressional District, represented by U.S. Representative Brad Miller, join hundreds of Congressional districts throughout the country in hosting an arts competition for high school students.
 
The Congressional High School Arts Competition in both districts is open to high school students in public and private high schools as well as home-schooled students.
 
The Fourth District accepts entries from Wake, Durham and Orange Counties. If you live in and/or go to school in the Fourth District, you are eligible to enter Congressman Price’s competition. You can contact your local arts council (United Arts of Raleigh and Wake County: 919-839-1498 x233; Durham Arts Council: 919-560-2719; Orange County Arts Commission: 919-245-2335) or Congressman Price’s office for more information. Guidelines and an application form are available below. The deadline for entries for the 4th District’s competition is March 31, 2008. Each county will select two judges who will review all the entries to select the top three pieces for the District. Winners will be announced at a reception on Monday, April 28 at the United Arts Council’s new office space, 110 S Blount St, Raleigh, NC 27601. The reception begins at 6 p.m.; the ceremony announcing the winners will begin at 6:45.
 
The 13th District accepts entries from Wake, Granville, Person, Caswell, Alamance, Guilford and Rockingham Counties. If you are a high school student living in and/or going to school in the 13th District, you are eligible for Congressman Miller’s competition. Guidelines and an application form are available below. You can also receive a copy of the guidelines and application form from your school’s art teacher, or by contacting Congressman Miller’s office at 1-877-272-3435 (or 919-836-1313 locally in Wake County).
 
The deadline for entries for the 13th District’s Competition is March 21, 2008. Winners will be announced at a reception at the North Carolina Museum of Art on Saturday, May 17. The reception begins at 3 p.m.; the ceremony announcing the winners will begin at 3:30.
 
The first-place student in both contests will have their pieces hung in Washington, D.C. in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. Three round-trip tickets to D.C. will be available to each first-place student to bring two guests to the ribbon cutting ceremony in June. Also, the first-place student in each district will receive a $5,000-per-year scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design.
