Two Grantee Artists Win Additional Awards from Triangle Community Foundation

Karen Miller Anderson of Smithfield, NC, and Ann Marie Kennedy of Raleigh, two of United Arts' 2006-2007 Regional Artist Project Grantees, won additional awards from the Triangle Community Foundation in March. Both are now recipients of the 2007 Linda A. Ironside Fund for the Arts Awards from the Foundation, which invited United Arts to submit applications for the eighth year of their Foundation awards. Anderson was cited for her work in textiles and Kennedy for her sculpture work.

The Triangle Community Foundation's Selection Committee tapped their work for best exemplifying the spirit of Linda Ironside, a beloved friend and colleague of the Foundation, where she worked for four years. A passionate advocate of the arts, Ironside also had worked at the American Dance Festival and the City Gallery of Contemporary Arts. Her personal interests included creative expression that expands boundaries, film, writing and photography.

The $425 awards will be applied as a supplement toward the winners' projects receiving funding from the United Arts Regional Artist Project Grants. These grant awards were announced in December 2006; Anderson received $1,250 and Kennedy $1,500. The Regional Artist Project Grant Program receives major funding from United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support is provided by the Franklin County Arts Council, Johnston County Arts Council, Vance County Arts Council and Warren County Arts Council.
