City & County to Sponsor Joint Employee Art Exhibit as Part of National Arts Program Foundation
 
The City of Raleigh Arts Commission and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County invite all City and County employees and their immediate family members to enter the 3rd annual National Arts Program Foundation Exhibition, December 5, 2005 through January 6, 2006. The deadline for employees and their families to submit their registration form is Monday, November 14.
 
This art exhibit, in collaboration with The National Arts Program Foundation, Inc., of Malvern, Pennsylvania, showcases the diverse and artistic talents of municipal employees of Raleigh and Wake County and their families. Recognized artists and arts professionals will jury all works and cash prizes will be awarded in the exhibition's five artistic classifications: amateur, intermediate, professional, youth ages 12-18 and youth under 12 years.
 
In the adult classifications, winners will receive $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. In the youth classifications, $75 will go to first place winners, $50 to second place and $25 to third place winners. A best of show award of $300 will be presented, also.
 
The National Arts Program Foundation was conceived by Leonard E. B. Andrews, art collector, publisher, business executive and journalist, "for the encouragement and development of artistic expression." It began as a pilot project in 1985 and now reaches over 150 cities in the U.S.
 
The Raleigh and Wake County employee and family artwork will be displayed in the Avery Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett Street, from December 5, 2005 to January 6, 2006. The Raleigh Arts Commission will host a reception for the show Friday, December 9 from 5-7 p.m. The reception is open to the public.
 
Rules for submitting artwork:
 
  • A registration form must be completed by each artist who plans to submit an entry and returned to the Raleigh Arts Commission's via office interoffice mail, fax at 890-3602 or mail to P. O. Box 590, Raleigh, NC 27602 by November 14, 2005.
  • Artwork must be brought to first floor lobby of the Avery Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St., from 3-5 p.m. on Monday, November 21.
  • Each individual artist may submit up to two works. All exhibits will be labeled with the artist's name and where appropriate, department affiliation.
  • All artwork must be framed with an I.D. label placed on the back.
  • Two-dimensional artwork (painting, prints, drawings and photographs) should be ready to hang with eye screws and/or d-rings. No wire.
  • All work must measure no more than 48" in any direction or weigh more than 50 pounds unless otherwise stipulated. Entries that do not meet size limitations or specifications will be disqualified before judging.
  • Because there is no space to store work after the exhibition, all work must be removed on Monday, January 9, 2006 from 10 am - Noon. The City of Raleigh, Wake County,The National Arts Program Foundation and the The National Arts Program® are not responsible for work left after this time.
  • All delivery and pickup of work will be the sole responsibility of the artist.
