A twice-monthly way to keep in touch with our valued supporters in Raleigh and Wake County.
First Friday at United Arts
Join us this evening, February 3, from 6- 8 pm for the opening of our new MJH Galley exhibit in the Untied Arts lobby. This month features glass artist, Teddy Devereux, and mixed media artist, Michelle Matheny.
Teddy Devereux (left) fuses art and science. The glass pictures were inspired by biological imagery or photographs of natural patterns. During her scientific career, Teddy was intrigued by the life forms she studied under the microscope and by the beauty she perceived in the research going on in her laboratory. These fused glass pictures have underlying scientific themes, although the style tends toward the abstract rather than the literal. To find out more visit: www.vitreous-humor.com
As a result of a stroke in 2008, mixed media artist, Michelle Matheny, has partial aphasia, which is the loss of the ability to articulate ideas through speech or written language. She explains that she still has ideas and feelings, but they are now expressed through her art.
United Arts is located at 110 South Blount Street in downtown Raleigh. Beer and wine will be served. This exhibit will run through the month of February. It is brought to you by the United Arts Council and Visual Art Exchange Association and Gallery.

Photographs by Mike Letke
Art has always been the path to inner peace for Mike Letke (right). In high school he knew photography was what he wanted to do, but despite life’s sidetracks he always finds his way back to art and photography.
Having spent most of his life in the computer field, it is natural for Letke to combine technology with his art. Photography is the basis for his work, using Photoshop and Painter to create the final product.
“Ultimately, it is my goal that others can feel as much peace viewing my work as I have gained from creating it,“ he says. Letke can be contacted at mletke@live.com.
