KINETYX Active Learning Performances
KINETYX ENSEMBLE: Active Learning Performances. These one-hour performances include audience participation and a repertoire of choreographic works that teach math, science, language arts and world cultures. Curriculum goals from NC Standard Course of Study are addressed in each subject for grades K-2, 3-5 or 6-8. There are 4 dancers and a spokesperson. Schools may choose from one of four programs. These may be linked to a KINETIKids Residency. 1) "Movin' Into Math" Numeric skills, geometric transformations, diagrams, patterns, directions. 2) "Science in Motion" Simple Machines, Life Cycles, Laws of Motion, Ecosystems. 3) "Unspoken Words" Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Punctuation, Story Structure, Story telling. 4) "Around the World in 60 Minutes" A trip to four continents through interpretive dance. Your students and teachers will love the connections between dance and classroom.

Artist Background

Martha Connerton/Kinetic Works, is a multifaceted dance company that performs in schools, concert venues and non-traditional spaces such as museums, community centers and outdoor street performances. KINETYX Dance Ensemble is a four member group that tours exclusively to schools. Kinetic Works is on the Touring Artist rosters for North and South Carolina, Raleigh-Wake, Fayetteville/Cumberland and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Arts Councils. The dance company serves over 25,000 students annually. Martha Connerton has over 30 years of experience as a teaching artist. She has worked for Lincoln Center Institute, Kennedy Center VSA, Blumenthal Education Institute, and is on state and county rosters throughout the Carolinas.
