Instruments Have Families Too!

Instruments Have Families Too!
This program is a basic introduction to three of the instrumental families; strings, woodwinds and brass. These are three separate concert offerings, performed independently from one another. Each concert will include three instrumentalists, a demonstration of each instrument, information about how the sound is produced, a history of the instruments and four to five short works that demonstrate the different elements, styles, eras and structures of music. Each concert will include an audience participation element. With each concert there are specified curriculum tie-ins. K-2 concerts will be only 40 minutes and will give less technical information. 3-5 will be 50 minutes long and will include an opportunity for students to ask questions. 6-8 is useful as an introduction to students who are starting to learn an instrument or are trying to pick an instrument for band and orchestra. There will be more in-depth discussion on the technical aspects of the instruments than the K-5 concerts.
